Eric Huberman, also known as Hubbs, is a Barstool Sports writer and host of sports podcast, The Short Porch, which covers the New York Yankees. Originally from Manalapan, New Jersey and a 2016 Syracuse University graduate, Eric has deep roots with the Yankees and has been a super fan of the team for as long as he can remember.
Our conversation expanded on his career at Barstool and how a small blog reporting the Yankees, turned into an outlet in news for the team and the amazing opportunities it created for Eric.
I had the opportunity to speak with Eric about his recent success and what the future holds for his podcast and the Yankees.
Eric, your work at Barstool Sports between your podcast, The Short Porch, and your attendance and documentation of some rather historic Yankee games in recent years has reached new heights. Did you envision this when first joining the Barstool Sports team? How about even earlier, in college?

"After a few years and the company expanded, and I was given the new podcast, The Short Porch with Tommy (Scibelli), to specifically report on the New York Yankees. Immediately we gained a huge following, considering we are naturally streaming from New York, but also, we developed a fan base of passionate, diehard Yankee fans. I always wanted to get into sports reporting for the Yankees, but I wasn’t sure how I would create that until I was in college. As a college student, I worked multiple internships involving sports writing to build up my resume and get me a much bigger opportunity in the future and that happened to be with Barstool."
Seeing that your podcast, The Short Porch, has gained a great following lately, how do you envision its future?
"The Yankees are the greatest franchise in baseball history. Period. I see it as a revolving door. There will always be fans of this team, young and old, which creates new fans of the podcast daily. This podcast sheds light on a much more fun side of reporting and we want to connect with each of our listeners as best as possible. I think the use of social media to further express interest into our fans has been key. Our followers can share and retweet our posts to spread the word about the podcast. Our podcast will go as far as this team brings us. When the Yankees win, we win."
As your podcast has grown, what have you seen from the Yankees that has given you hope for the future?
“The Chase for 28” is what gives me hope every season. If there is a 2020 season, this team will be the best we’ve seen since 2009. I am confident in these guys and with the addition of Gerrit Cole, we can actually say we are going for it all. I see this team having great success for the next 5-10 years with multiple World Series wins. While those are high hopes, coming from a Yankee fan, it’s realistic hope."
"Over the past few seasons I’ve been given the opportunity to meet these players and get on a personal level with them. They are hungry for a championship and I’m confident in each and every one of these guys to deliver. Just this past Spring Training, we got to go Tampa and sit down with a few guys and just talk baseball. They will be ready whenever the season kicks off."During this hiatus from MLB due to ongoing events, Eric has been keeping updates on the team as well as trying something new, playing MLB The Show 20 against Yankee Pitcher, Tommy Kahnle.
